How Are We Doing So Far This Year

We are halfway through 2012. For my article this month I would like to give you an update on how we are doing on our church goals for the year. Our church theme for 2012 is “Show to Others the Love God Has Shown to Us!” which is a theme based on our church’s 2012 watchword which is listed on the heading of this page and is Psalm 103:11:

“For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:11

Our 2012 church goals are:

Outreach to new developments

Our Evangelism Committee has been working on a welcome packet for the new developments in our area. They also held the recent Community Flag Day Celebration as a way to reach out to those in these developments. Many invi- tations for this event were put at people’s doors in some of the new housing developments, apartments and villas that are close to our church.

Offer support groups

Our church has begun two continuing support groups this year. There is the Moms of Preschoolers (MOPS) group which brings mothers together in our church and community. We are very thankful to the leadership of Lorie Shelton and those on the MOPS Steering Committee for their work with this group. Our church family has also begun a support group for those who are unemployed, underemployed and those who are interested in this issue. This group has already had two good meetings and will have other times to get together for sharing and support. Also, earlier this year during Holy Week Preacher Bill led an Evening of Remembrance which was a support for those who have lost loved ones.

Fundraiser activities for funds, fellowship and publicity

There are two big fundraisers coming in the months ahead which should help meet this goal. Our Men’s Fellowship is sponsoring a Port-a-Pit Chicken fundraiser. Our Bazaar Committee is working on this fall’s Church Bazaar.

Be intentional with Time and Talent Sheets

We thank our many members who filled out and turned in their Time and Talent Sheets earlier this year. Our church committees and leaders have the list of those who said they would like to serve in the ministries that pertain to their committees and ministries. The committees and leaders have been asked to follow up on those who said they were will- ing to help and already many have been contacted.

Evaluate our kitchen and make any needed improvements

Our Board of Trustees continue to work on this goal.

Evaluate the current use of our facility

Our Board of Trustees continue to work on this goal.

Thank you to the many of you who help make this church family the special church it is. If you have not been with us so far this year or not been coming on a regular basis, we miss you and want you to be more a part of our church. It is my prayer for each of us that this great gift from God called the Olivet Moravian Church will help all of us grow in faith and enjoy our journey with the Lord. Let’s come together!

Let’s look to God! Let’s show to others the wonderful love God has shown to us! Let’s do great things for God!

In Christ’s love and service,

Doug

About Us

Olivet offers a traditional Moravian style service on Sunday Morning at 11:00 AM. Using hymns and liturgies from the Moravian Book of Worship the worshiper is led to a point when the children have a special time with the pastor and then a Gospel Sermon is preached by the Pastor or the Pastoral Assistant.

Communion is offered some eight times during the year, and all professing Christians are welcome to participate.
