Courageous Families

For the past several years for the Sundays between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day we have had a family emphasis at Olivet. Most of the time this emphasis has been done with a family series of sermons. This year our family emphasis is going to be more than just a series of messages.

Last month our church showed the movie “Courageous” which many people attended. There are others who have seen this movie in theaters and in their homes. In the film, four law officers are confident and focused when standing up to the worst the streets have to offer, but leading their families at home in a God-honoring way is something quite differ- ent. These men discover that leading their families in the right way takes courage.

“Courageous” is a powerful movie with a powerful message. We want to offer a follow-up to the movie starting this month. One way we will do this is Bill and I will share a series of family messages on “Courageous Living”. We are also going to offer two opportunities for our men. One of these opportunities is a four week study called the “Courageous Living Bible Study” which will be done between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. This study will help facilitate leading men toward living more courageously in four key areas which are:

Responsibility: serving, protecting, and casting a vision for their family
Priorities: focusing on eternal things rather than what is temporary
Legacy: recognizing a father’s potential impact as a godly role model
Faith: strengthening a father’s identity in Christ, increasing in wisdom

The other opportunity for our men will be a Resolution Ceremony which we will have following our worship service on Father’s Day, June 17. This ceremony will be for any of our men who are willing to commit themselves to the same Resolution as shown in the movie; to be a man who is responsible for himself and his family, to be a spiritual leader in his home, to honor God and do His will.

If you have not seen the movie, please see it. You can borrow my copy. Also please keep the families of our church in your prayers. Please pray for husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, children and family members who will have the courage to be who God wants them to be in their life and in their home. Please also pray for our church family, that we will be faithful and courageous in sharing the good news of Jesus and God’s purposes for our lives and that we will be faithful and courageous in our being all we can be for God!

In Christ’s love and service,

Doug

About Us

Olivet offers a traditional Moravian style service on Sunday Morning at 11:00 AM. Using hymns and liturgies from the Moravian Book of Worship the worshiper is led to a point when the children have a special time with the pastor and then a Gospel Sermon is preached by the Pastor or the Pastoral Assistant.

Communion is offered some eight times during the year, and all professing Christians are welcome to participate.
