In many places in the Bible it tells us to “give thanks!” We should always give thanks, and the month of November which includes Thanksgiving is always a time when I think about the things I am thankful for. One of the items at the top of my thanksgiving list is our church, and for this month’s newsletter article I would like to express my thanks to you with a thank you letter.
Dear Olivet Moravian Church Family, I want to thank you for the wonderful opportunity you have given me these past years to serve as your pastor. I am grateful to be part of a great church, and what makes Olivet great are the many people in our church family who love the Lord and faithfully serve God for which I am very thankful.
I want to thank you for the many ways you have supported me through these years. Thank you for providing a won- derful church in which to raise our children. Thank you for your support when Kathy had surgery. Thank you for your prayers and support when Kathy’s dad and my dad passed away. Thank you for being sensitive to our family’s needs when we looked for a larger place to live. Thank you for your many other expressions of kindness and support which are too many to be listed in this letter.
I want to thank you for the relationships we share. I feel that every member of this church is my friend. I enjoy see- ing you in church and outside of church. It makes me feel good when good things happen in your life. It saddens me when I see you suffer. It also saddens me when I don’t see you that much at Olivet and I feel sad that there are some who do not come at all.
I want to thank you for being a church that when there is a need, we try to meet it. I am thankful for the many ways we support our own. When I see our table full of Item of the Month items and members of our church family taking part in mission projects and mission trips, I am grateful to be in a church that looks beyond itself.
There are many other things I could share in this letter that I am thankful for about our church family, but I will close this letter with one more. I am thankful for our potential. I thank God for what this church has done and continues to do. I also thank God for all the great things I believe are coming for our church family. God is not through with us. As long as we look to the Lord and faithfully serve Him, greater things will come which I am sure will give me even more reason to give thanks!
In Christ’s love and service,
Olivet offers a traditional Moravian style service on Sunday Morning at 11:00 AM. Using hymns and liturgies from the Moravian Book of Worship the worshiper is led to a point when the children have a special time with the pastor and then a Gospel Sermon is preached by the Pastor or the Pastoral Assistant.
Communion is offered some eight times during the year, and all professing Christians are welcome to participate.
