In my basketball playing days my teams would say “man up” to let everyone know we were playing a man to man defense. In more recent years “man up” has become an expression which means to get someone to do something, to step it up and to do the right thing. I believe it is an expression that some of us need to hear when it comes to our church.
One of our church goals this year is to have more people involved in our church and more people taking leadership roles. I realize there are a lot of you who do not need to read what I am about to share. Many who receive this newslet- ter are very active and involved in the life of our church which helps make Olivet Moravian a great church! There are others who need to hear the following words;
If you are able to, but you just don’t come to church,
“man up” (or “woman up”) and start coming at least once a month if not more.
If you come on average once a month but you are able to come more,
“man up” (or “woman up”) and make it to church at least twice a month if not more.
If all you do is just come to church for the worship service and that’s it,
“man up” (or “woman up”) and become involved in one of the ministries of our church.
If you have an interest in helping in some of our particular areas of ministry such as Christian education, evangelism, stewardship and/or missions, “man up” (or “woman up”) and serve on one of our committees.
If you want to follow God’s will for your life, take to heart what God’s Word says that “you are the body of Christ (the Church) and each one of you is a part of it.” “Man up” (or “woman up”) and be a part of it.
April is a very special month at Olivet as we celebrate our reason for being a church. Without Jesus and his resurrec- tion on Easter, there would not be the Olivet Moravian Church. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have a new life in Christ, an abundant life as we put our faith in him and live for him, the promise of an everlasting life in heaven, and the life Jesus wants us to share together as members of his Body, the Church. God loves you so much and we see God’s great love in the gift of Jesus. As a response to God’s love for you, may you show your love for God by “manning up” (or “womanning up”) as a follower of Christ and as a member of Christ’s Church!
Olivet offers a traditional Moravian style service on Sunday Morning at 11:00 AM. Using hymns and liturgies from the Moravian Book of Worship the worshiper is led to a point when the children have a special time with the pastor and then a Gospel Sermon is preached by the Pastor or the Pastoral Assistant.
Communion is offered some eight times during the year, and all professing Christians are welcome to participate.
